From the supplier: The property and casualty insurance industry's decision to cut back on new policies for Floridians because of Hurricane Andrew has angered agents and consumers. Because of the cutback, the state of Florida has created a new joint underwriting authority (JUA) to replace lost coverage. The JUA is scheduled to begin operations on Feb 1, 1993, and it is predicted that the JUA will provide coverage for as many as 500,000 Florida residents. Agents are upset with producers over caps set on policy writing that limit their earning capacity and consumers distrust producers because the JUA policies will be more expensive.
