From the supplier: George Frideric Handel's opera 'Acis and Galatea' enjoyed some popularity at the Swedish Royal Opera between 1732 and about 1776. In order to take up a whole evening, the Opera needed a piece much longer than Handel's original masque. Lars Samuel Lalin, who had been chosen by King Gustav to produce Acis, came up with a pastiche of Handel, incidental ballet music and new music by Hinrich Philip Johnsen. The plot was also enlarged and rewritten. Acis paved the way in Sweden for the operas of Christoph Willibald Gluck.
