From the supplier: Insurance companies are increasingly turning to private investigators to help them root out fraudulent insurance claims. An estimated $18 billion is spent annually to pay fraudulent claims, and insurers do not have the personnel to investigate all claims themselves. Private investigators, looking into suspicious workers' compensation claims, try to video tape the claimant in some activity precluded by the alleged injury, and in automobile accident claims, try to establish that the accident was rigged or the injuries unfounded. Private investigators also aid in identifying fraudulent clinics and medical practitioners.
