From the supplier: Union Bank of San Francisco, CA, has introduced a successful program that appeals to low- to moderate-income individuals who do not have a regular bank account. Called Cash & Save, the program focuses on check cashing services but involves a host of other services such as domestic and foreign wire fund transfers, utility and other bill transfer payments and tax refund loans. Although primarily targeted at increasing participation in mainstream banking, Cash & Save does not call for an official affiliation with the bank, such as a checking account. Unlike other check cashing services, Union Bank charges only 1.5% of the face value of a check. However, a $7.50 yearly membership to the Cash & Save program cuts the fee to only 1% and earns a customer 72 free money orders in a year. To promote the program, Union Bank offered free consultation and seminars to individuals and communities.
