From the supplier: The article in the Detroit Free Press about the newspaper's environmental auditing was balanced in representing different standpoints. Reporter Emilia Askari had suggested that the newspaper should set an example by having an environmental audit and publishing the results. The audit was conducted by Don Hensel of the Newspaper Ass'n of America (NAA). Knight-Ridder, the parent company, is a member of the NAA. Hensel mentioned some strategic maneuvering during his audit, and the union and management had disagreements about the fairness of the inspection. Despite all this, editor Heath Meriwether has reasons to be pleased about the inspection and its published report.
