From the supplier: The contribution of information systems (IS) to manufacturing productivity was determined using results from the survey of the members of the Electronic Segment Division of American Production and Inventory Control Society. The results were evaluated based on the contribution of IS to manufacturing and organizational effectiveness, underutilization of IS and evaluation of IS personnel by shop floor managers. The results showed five factors for an IS to be effective. These include its use as a strategic weapon and not just an operational tool, an emphasis on integration and on open system, the use of cross-training and multi-functional approach and the preference towards a team-oriented and flexible organizational structure.
