From the supplier: The interactive optical disc is emerging, in the form of CD-I (compact-disc interactive). This interactive optical disc combines the digital audio disc with computer data and visual elements and offers more than multimedia. It provides a new platform for learning in the classroom and the home. Rand McNally, Britannica Software, Time-Life Books and other companies are preparing software for the 1991 introduction of CD-I. Such mass-market CD-I applications require that all discs must play on all players, or a limited market results. In addition, architecture needs to be common to all. Universities need to train those who will push this technology ahead.
