From the supplier: IBM introduces its new group of interactive multimedia software packages called 'MegaMedia' or knowledge systems. The Illuminated Books and Manuscripts educational software, developed by IBM and AND Communications, is designed to apply multimedia resources to the analysis and understanding of texts. It illuminates five classics including Shakespeare's 'Hamlet' and Tennyson's 'Ulysses.' Five levels of text augmentation are used: definitions, context, interpretations, method and Link, which identifies universal themes and ideas in the work. The system can be extended well beyond the five flagship works and teachers can use the tools to add their own comments, illustrations and references to the five featured works. Columbus: Encounter, Discovery and Beyond is the first of The Discovers Series produced by Synapse Technologies in partnership with IBM. It is a cross-cultural, multi-disciplinary investigation of the Renaissance and the Age of Discovery. It promotes an exploratory, 'stream-of-thought' approach to learning by allowing the student or teacher to instantly branch from topic to topic.
