From the supplier: Environmentally-friendly building systems may become a reality with the help of both federally-sponsored programs and private intiatives. The EPA's Energy Star Building is one year-old, while its Green Lights Program is now four years old. The former involves building upgrading to achieve efficient energy consumption standards through the assistance of the EPA. The latter program focuses specifically on the lighting aspects of buildings. The US Green Building Council, on the other hand, is a non-profit group that hopes to have its proposed building environmental standards included in building codes all over the US. However, many property managers remain skeptical of the benefits of following 'green' standards, although some have initiated their own programs patterned after the above systems. Nevertheless, the 'green building' will remain a dream until property managers find a cost-effective method of following such standards.
