From the supplier: The Educational Service District (ESD) 101 in Spokane, WA, has expanded its satellite-based rural learning program to include urban schools via cable television. The ESD 101 program uses Engage Communication SyncSatellite hardware and software to broadcast lessons at 64K-bps to schools which download the transmission into a Macintosh linked to a SyncSatellite receiver. Students can get help with a toll-free number. The new cable TV system, SyncCATV, broadcasts educational material to about 100 Seattle schools which receive transmissions through a Macintosh, a TV, and the $3,295 Engage package. Schools on a cable TV network can purchase a $1,500 Engage modulator which broadcasts to all schools on the TV network. ESD 101 has 15,000 students in six time zones across Alaska, Oregon and Washington. Schools pay a subscriber's fee plus $175 to $490 for each student for the service.
