From the supplier: A study of the depictions of Scandinavia in 'mappae mundi,' medieval world maps, offers insight into historical conceptions of that part of the world. Representations of Scandinavia on such maps pre-dates the 14th-century portolan maps often cited as the earliest known cartographic depictions of the region. A comparison of 'mappae mundi' and relevant literature of the era shows that cartographers often ignored textualized descriptions of the area and chose to depict Scandinavia as a peninsula, rather than an island, as it was depicted in literature.
