From the supplier: The fiction of Nayantara Sahgal reflects the conflict between tradition and modernity in India in the late 20th century. Sahgal's women are generally conservative and represent tradition, although they also rebel against tradition that dictates the enslavement of women. Men in Sahgal's fiction are generally selfish, cruel, greedy and materialistic, while women are loving, charitable, kind, compassionate and altruistic. Sahgal combines tradition and modernity in a mix that is both liberal and Ghandhist.
