From the author: This paper describes the application of quality tools to the task of understanding and meeting the expectations which employees have of their employer. The relationship between employee/company is compared to that of customer/company. Since Quality Improvement tools have facilitated improvement at the customer/company interface, they should also be useful at the employee/company interface with similar improvement potential. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is one of the quality tools which have been found to be useful as a planning template for overall coordination of the improvement effort. It is a disciplined means to display significant amounts of data for a team's use as they attempt to deploy resources cost effectively. QFD keeps the expectations of the stakeholder group (employees, stockholders or customers) visible consistently through development, analysis and implementation of the delivery vehicles which are intended to meet the identified expectations.
