From the supplier: Rural electric utilities form associations based on the belief that a cooperative is more effective than a single unit and a group of cooperatives, in turn, can accomplish more than a single cooperative. Because they do not have the strategic advantages enjoyed by their larger, investor-owned competitors, it is imperative for rural electrics to learn how to make good use of the opportunities provided by collective-action cooperatives to make up for what they lack in size. However, managing a single cooperative in conjunction with other cooperatives is no easy task. Collaboration and cooperation can be very challenging and often require a new and complex set of management skills that are tantamount to a cultural change.
