From the supplier: Adequate water and wastewater treatment facilities are among the infrastructure vital to the success of any rural economic development program. Unfortunately, water and wastewater treatment technology is often commercially available in large-size facilities that do not offer favorable economics to small rural communities. Rural electric cooperatives and local water or wastewater utilities have been teaming up to find solutions to this problem. For instance, the National Rural Electric Cooperative Assn. is exploring alternative electrotechnologies for water and wastewater that are more economically suitable to the needs of rural communities. Johnson County Electric Cooperative is working with the Brazos River District and the Acton Municipal Utility in studying multifamily wastewater with disinfection. The University of Colorado, for its part, has teamed up with various associations to examine the denitrification of drinking water.
