From the supplier: Mexican novelist Laura Esquivel is a postmodernist writer who achieved fame with her work entitled 'Como agua para chocolate' which is a parody of the popular women's magazine. The novel is written in the manner of a woman's column that contains recipes and tips for decorating. An omniscient narrator is used for the novel. The characters are typical middle-class Mexican women who live in the countryside and who are religious, smart in their dealings with their spouses and skillfull in their daily chores.
