From the supplier: Ernest Hemingway's short story 'Che Ti Dice La Patria' ostensibly recreates his encounter with fascism in Italy when he visited the country in 1927. Hemingway came to Italy to marry Pauline Pfeiffer after he had divorced Hadley Richardson, and the couple's voyage had been a journey in search of a meaningful existence. This subtext was not clearly delineated in the story and remained a secondary interpretation as well as a way for the writer to avoid a direct identification with the character.
