From the supplier: The link between prenatal drug abuse and low birth weight is explored. A time-series model is employed to characterize the monthly rate of low birth weight among live births to black and white residents of New York City. The model is used to examine trends in ilicit drug use and birth weight for the period between 1963 and 1990. In addition, the impact of illict drug use, smoking and prenatal care on race-specific birth weights for the period 1978-1990 is also determined via Kalman filtering.
