From the supplier: The financial characteristics, investment patterns and profitability of small business investment companies (SBICs) are investigated. Results show that bank-owned SBICs have larger capital and equity investments compared to nonbank-owned SBICs. The total assets and capital of bank-owned SBICs increased between 1983 to 1992 while those of nonbank-owned SBICs decreased. SBIC profitability is also influenced by size, asset quality and the ratio of loans to investments.
