From the supplier: Stein and Co. VP/Investor Relations William Norwell explains that his company got involved with real estate management in Russia at the prodding of the James McHugh Construction Co. The construction firm builds corporate buildings in Russia but found that no firm is available to take care of the properties after construction. Norwell says the company was persuaded to explore the property management opportunities on Russian soil. However, this foreign venture is not without its difficulties. Stein and Co. had to find suppliers of goods and services in Russia that were up to standards. Senior VP/Corporate Services John Korn also recounts that communication is a major barrier, primarily due to differences in languages spoken by Stein officials and Russian employees. Nevertheless, these troubles were surmounted with the help of training and good networking.
