From the supplier: Communication technology is rapidly altering the fundamental shape of learning, and traditional classroom instruction can be extended with e-mail, newsgroups and Web sites. Computer networks can improve the three most critical teacher activities, which are student counseling, general information delivery and the encouragement of class participation. E-mail enhances personal counseling opportunities and facilitates direct student contact. E-mail allows teachers to extend office hours and allows students to privately respond to group discussions. Web sites are capable of delivering general knowledge more adeptly than lectures. Web pages are ideal for distributing course materials, such as class policies, the syllabus and term paper guidelines. Newsgroups can vastly improve class interaction, as they allow students and teachers to participate in discussions at any time of night or day.
