From the supplier: Schools are increasingly investing in the needed hardware, software and connections for Internet access, but they may be overlooking the most important element of teaching for and in the new millenium, the classroom teacher. A recent study reveals that a decade of technological improvements in educational facilities yielded limited capabilities and inconsistent application. Teachers seem to have access to technological resources, but are not making use of them. The students use the available resources even less since their teachers are the gateway to the online world. Public policy has failed to support the growing needs of teachers as their jobs embrace technological advancements. Schools have failed to properly train teachers, spending only about 15% of their technology budget on training. Thoughtful planning for technology can prepare a school system to gather the rich benefits of modern technology in education. Technology should be the catalyst for better education, not the goal of it.
