From the supplier: Human resource professionals are surveyed to determine the types of performance appraisal methods they use and how the data generated are utilized. The study seeks to find out whether traditional evaluation methods are still in use or whether new approaches are being employed. The findings show that companies rely on more than one appraisal format. The most popular of these are Management-by-Objectives, with 31.8% of the 140 respondents reporting its use in their companies; graphic rating scale forms, used in 24% of the surveyed firms; and narrative essay, employed in 33.9% of these organizations. Majority of the companies conduct annual performance evaluations, but a number of them also carry out quarterly (3.6%) and semiannual appraisals (15.6%). Almost 80% of the firms use evaluations for salary decisions, training needs and employee objectives.
