From the supplier: Benevolent overreaction is commonly seen in families of children with seizure disorder in hospital epilepsy units. Benevolent overreaction is a cyclical, pathological behavior exhibited by family of the chronically ill whereby the family's concern for the patient prevent effective treatment. In a study at one hospital, nurses in an epilepsy unit correctly identified elements of the behavior but were weak with intervention. Nurses can be better educators and help parents break the cycle of benevolent overreaction to speed patient discharge and improve home care.
