From the supplier: India has some 15 million bonded child laborers working as virtual slaves to pay off debts incurred by their relatives or guardians, usually their parents. According to the Commission on Labour Standards and International Trade, child labor in the country grows at an annual rate of 4%, as cost of living and unemployment increases. Multilateral lending institutions share some of the responsibility for the increase in child labor as they neglect to monitor the use of bonded children in the projects that they fund.
