From the supplier: The controversy over clothing-optional beaches in New South Wales from the 1970s to the 1990s demonstrated the politics of struggles between pleasure and discipline. Several nude beaches were popular from 1976 to 1993, when the government allowed local councils to close these beaches. Although nudity became increasingly common in magazines, on television and in films during this period, and bathing suits exposed more flesh, the general population continues to view public nudity as embarrassing and threatening.
