From the supplier: University of Damascus Prof Sadik al-Azm was to gain prominence in the late 1960s after he published two bold critiques on the underlying causes of the Arab defeat in the 1967 war with Israel. Al-Azm believed that, at that time, the emergence of the Arab liberation movement was an ideal vehicle, despite its limitations, for producing favorable economic, social and political changes that would build a better Arab future.
