From the supplier: An understanding and appreciation of the various strategies and processes inherent in reengineering partnerships is crucial if such strategic alliances are to be successful. These interfirm endeavors require higher levels of collaboration and consultation than traditional relationships between vendors and customers. Five major factors should be involved in such partnerships, namely, reexamining a firm's strategic direction and its core competencies, rethinking interorganizational processes, reorienting members of the organization, rebuilding a partnership-oriented culture and reconstructing the framework that supports the partnership. A case study of a reengineering partnership between a computer network firm and a manufacturing company illustrates the complexity of the process when more than one organization is involved.
