From the author: In this article, I describe the development of a program fostering prospective and practicing elementary school teachers' research on their science teaching practices. I first discuss the science education community's recognition of the importance of teacher research. I then comment upon beliefs underlying the development of my program to foster teacher research, describe the program's setting, and summarize four of its components. Finally, I reflect upon my practices as a university faculty member in initiating and expanding this effort.
