From the supplier: Critics have overlooked the literary sources Hemingway might have used in 'For Whom the Bell Tolls,' suggesting instead that Hemingway relied primarily on personal experience and imagination. Hemingway had a copy of H.R. Knickerbocker's 'The Siege of Alcazar: A Warlog of the Spanish Revolution,' which he might have consulted to refresh his memories of the war. 'The French Revolution' by Carlyle and other accounts of the French Revolution may also have influenced Hemingway.
