From the supplier: Concrete balconies deteriorate faster and are the most susceptible to distress among all concrete building structures exposed to the elements. However, they are usually not given the protection they need upon construction, therefore, they are often the first part of the building to require repairs. The primary cause of balcony deterioration is the corrosion of reinforcing steel and hand railing embedments. The corrosion process is hastened by such factors as shallow concrete covering of the reinforcing steel, water infiltration, the use of carpets and other porous coverings on the balcony, and contacts between different metals. Recommended repair procedures and measures to prevent balcony failures are discussed.
