From the supplier: The International Monetary Fund-led global response to the Asian crisis has been harshly criticized by the UN Conference on Trade & Development in its 1998 Trade & Development Report. The UNCTAD report's analysis of the crisis places the cause of the disaster to the intrinsic and volatile nature of the global finance system which shifted to its existing state after the termination of the fixed exchange rate system early in the 1970s. The UNCTAD paper made several recommendations for the proper management and prevention of such crises.
