From the supplier: The effectiveness of state automobile safety inspections was investigated. New proof from a panel of the 50 states for the years 1981-1993 was presented. The approach integrated various innovations over previous investigations of safety inspections. Most importantly, a fixed-effects model that considers state-specific shifts in casualty rates was estimated. There was no indication that inspections substantially reduce fatality or injury rates.
