From the supplier: A survey of female certified public accountants who recently left their jobs in public accounting has revealed that majority of those polled cited stress as the reason behind their decision to resign. Among the specific stressful situations that the survey participants cited are the unpredictability of overtime, difficulties associated with coming back from a maternity leave, balancing family and work, perceived discrimination and cross-gender relations. Still, majority of the women polled believe that new accountants must start their careers by gaining an experience in public accounting as this would provide them better opportunities in the future.
