From the supplier: American Water Works (AWW) is the largest, most geographically diverse publicly-listed water utility in the US. It provides water supplies to seven million people in 22 states and has evolved into a dominant player in the privatized water utility market. Twice as large as its nearest US competitor, it maintains a staff that focuses on compliance with government regulations and has been busily acquiring water utilities across the US in recent years. With easy access to debt and equity markets, AWW is known to be in an excellent position to finance the costly upgrades required to comply with the Safe Water Acts of 1974 and 1996. The utility is led by Chmn Marilyn Ware and Pres and CEO James Barr, two childhood friends who have steered the company to market leader status. Ware and Barr are now studying the possibility of expansion into international water markets.
