From the supplier: Pres John Kennedy disappointed many Algerian nationalists when he decided to hew closely to the Algerian policy of the Eisenhower administration. He stressed the need for direct negotiations between the French colonial government and the Algerian rebels and worked to ensure that the new state did not fall into the Soviet sphere of influence. Kennedy's policies helped paved the way for the peaceful resolution of the Algerian conflict and led to the establishment of an orderly decolonialization process.
