From the supplier: The Queens Borough Public Library in Queens, New York City, NY, uses an electronic security system in preventing theft of library materials and has a standing policy of prosecuting persons even in minor offenses. The library's books are equipped with a small electronic tag that emits a magnetic field. Antennas at the library's walk-through gates pick up the magnetic field when a person leaves the library without properly checking out the book. Those caught stealing are also sued to send a message to the public that the library does not tolerate thefts.
