Description
Although Arabella was first released in 1949, it is a timeless novel. Set during the English Regency period, it takes a light approach to a society where arrogance, idleness, and injustice frequently prevailed. Despite that, Author Georgette Heyer uses accurate details and a sense of humor to provide readers a romantic comedy that should appeal to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. Written at a time when the rules governing the commercial romance genre were different, this novel does start a little slow as its setup coalesces in the first three chapters. However, once the principle players meet in the fourth, the story starts rolling. The characters are well defined, the story advances at a good pace, and the historical setting and detail is one of the best readers can ever find. Heyer has written more powerful plotlines, yet even her weaker ones shows she had the ability to engage a reader. Anyone looking for historical fiction with a sense of humor should enjoy Arabella. Heyer's novels are always recommended.
