"This manual describes how to use the FOCUS DB2 and SQL/DS Interface. It is applicable to FOCUS Releases 6.0 and 6.5 and to all DB2 and SQL/DS releases except where noted. Any features introduced in Release 6.5 will appear with a revision bar, like this sample, to the right of the text and an explicit note that the feature applies to Release 6.5. The FOCUS DB2 and SQL/DS Interface enables you to use FOCUS to update, analyze and report from data stored within tables and views of the DB2 or SQL/DS relational database management system (RDBMS). This manual supersedes the FOCUS and DB2 Read/Write Interface Users Manual (DN40320). You should use this manual in conjunction with the FOCUS for IBM Mainframe Users Manual (DN1000905). To use this manual effectively, you must be familliar with basic FOCUS reporting and database maintenance procedures. You must also have access to DB2 or SQL/DS relational table information. This includes both data within the tables and views themselves, as well as descriptive information about them (table names, column names and datatypes, etc). Check with your RDBMS database administrator (DBA) about table information, storage, and other site-specific considerations. The following summarizes the standard terminology used throughout this manual: - SQL refers to the Structured Query Language. - DB2 refers to the MVS relational database management system (RDBMS). - SQL/DS refers to the VM RDBMS. RDBMS is a generic term used to refer to either DB2 or SQL/DS. Where necessary, they are treated separately. - Tables is a generic reference for DB2 and SQL/DS tables and views. - Interface refers to both Interface products. Where necessary, the DB2 and SQL/DS Interfaces are treated separately. - Primary key used to describe the column or columns that uniquely identify a row in a table. Used together, the terms primary key and foreign key refer to the column(s) used to relate two tables. In either case, they do not refer to primary and..." [from preface]
