The Making, Shaping and Treating of Steel

This, the fifth edition of the book, reveals little knowledge not available trough other sources. For the information it contains, we are indebted to many, all of whom are named in the text by reference and footnotes. The references should prove helpful to those specializing in certain subjects or branches of ferrous metallurgy. For the assistance of many friends in preparing the manuscript and printing the book, we are most grateful. The format and arrangement of the previous edition have been retained, because we could devise no other more convienient to the greatest number of readers.
