Bertolt Brecht has been recognized as the foremost exponent of the Epic theater of our time, and perhaps the most remarkable German writer to come forward since the death of Franz Kafka. The two parables presented here -- THE GOOD WOMAN OF SETZUAN and THE CAUCASIAN CHALK CIRCLE -- have been among the greatest triumphs of the International Theater Festival in Paris, and are becoming increasingly familiar to theatergoers in the United States.
