This paper responds to a critique of the author's earlier suggestion that the long-standing focus on fodder legumes by agricultural research and development in sub-Saharan Africa has been and continues to be misplaced. After re-stating the argument that the interest in fodder legumes is rooted in a logic that has litte to do with the realities of livestock production in much of Africa, evidence relating to the degree of uptake and impact of legume technologies is breifly reviewed.
