Description
This special Theatre Historical Society deluxe numbered limited edition features a heavy blue slipcase, with gilt lettering stamped on three sides, to protect and enhance the book. The volume is printed in the original large format size using heavy acid-free paper. The cover features gold-stamped text and blue cloth binding.
Originally issued as two volumes in 1927 and 1930, this is one of the very few books on theatres produced during the era when movie palaces were being built all across the country. It contains chapters on many design and operational aspects of theatres of the period, is 368 pages and features 113 theatres, 275 photographs, 278 plans and illustrations. It also features an introduction by famed showman S. L. "Roxy" Rothafel.
This new printing features an alphabetical index and cross reference indexes by theatre name, location and architect, as well as a list of corrections and clarifications to the original edition.
All proceeds from the sale of this book support the ongoing efforts of the non-profit Theatre Historical Society of America to document and preserve America's rich theatre history.
