Description

An original stage play adapted from the 1759 Samual Richardson Novel. Clarissa takes place in the patriarchal society of mid-eighteenth century England.

A virtuous and lovely 19-year-old Clarissa Harlowe grows increasingly interested in 30-year-old aristocratic profligate, Robert Lovelace, a man her family openly insults and has determined is unworthy of her. Solely for sport and to satsify his ego, Lovelace tries to convince Clarissa to freely submit to him. But through the course of pursuing her, he actually falls in love with her, and although she is attracted to him, she will never submit to him, since she is convinced that he is morally bereft. In a gross error of judgment he decides he will have her by any means possible.

Permission is required for any staging / performance / public reading of this play.
