About the Author
For fifty years, Richard C. Gunter has been a land planner, civil engineering designer, land surveying professional, and real estate developer. He has researched thousands of deeds, titles, and abstracts, and has calculated, drawn, and recorded over three thousand boundary surveys and subdivision plats. He has designed award-winning subdivisions, commercial properties, apartment complexes, and golf courses. He was on the planning and engineering team that designed the city of Lake Saint Louis, Mo.

His ancestor, mathematician Sir Edmund Gunter, invented the Gunter s Chain, which was adopted by Thomas Jefferson for the surveying of the public lands after the Louisiana Purchase. His best advice is to always use a real estate attorney.
