Even though 2009 was one of the worst years ever for the Swedish IT services industry, the outsourcing market fared better than other submarkets. The reason for this is that outsourcing is perceived as an effective way to lower cost.
"The rapid uptake of offshore sourcing brings even more evidence to this picture. Acceptance of offshore deliveries rose from 10% to 27% in 2009 compared with 2008," says Nils Molin, Managing Director, IDC Sweden. He continues, "For 2010, we expect that the market will stabilize and show growth in the second half of the year. The Swedish outsourcing market was worth SEK 23.919 million in 2009 and is expected to grow to SEK 28.798 million in 2014, with a CAGR of 3.8%."
