He Works at Windy Gap

Ray Holdman talks to trees. They talk to him too; most of his life was spent fleeing people who thought him insane or dangerous. A strange, tough old man sends Ray to the slopes of Western Washington’s Mt. Rainier, to ‘ask some questions, and listen to some answers’. Deep in the mountain’s back country, Ray finds a community of people who work and speak with all the world’s living things. He meets a young woman who represents the trees to the rest of the world, and comes up against a great, malevolent spirit determined to destroy him and everything around him. Ray’s arduous path on the mountain is mirrored by the journey of self discovery he must make to save himself, the people he comes to love, the entire mountain and all who live there.
