The history of England and Ireland in the middle sixteen hundreds speaks of wars and rebellion. In the siege of Drogheda, 3,500 people were massacred, in Wexford 2,000 met the same fate. Those captured were sent to New England, Bermuda and the West Indies as indentured persons. In an effort to subdue the Irish Catholics an edict was proclaimed by Cromwell. Take an oath denouncing the Pope or you will lose 2/3rds of your property and your lands confiscated. Upwards of seven million eight hundred thousand acres were parceled out to Protestants, without regard or compensation to the former owners. For the poorer class, it was slavery in the Barbadoes.

It was in an Irish cottage , inhabited by an old Irish woman known for her knowledge of Irish history, the author-siblings were provided a dollop of history for this story. Nora was a young Catholic girl, raped by the man she loved and forced to marry a man who she despised. Running away to the man she loved with her two children, She fell into an insidious trap. Trepanned, and sold to the highest bidder in Barbadoes, her life is bared for all to see.
