What Is a Mold? An Introduction to Plastic Injection Molding and Injection Mold Construction

This book, "What is a Mold", was initiated by the Training Committee at Tech Mold, Inc., to familiarize new employees with terms used in the injection moldmaking trade. The committee "brainstormed" to make a list of terms as seen through the eyes of Tech Mold personnel. This list of terms became the basis for the book. "What is a Mold?" is not intended to answer every question regarding all classes of molds but rather to give an understanding as to the construction of production type molds built at Tech Mold, Inc. In many cases, people from trades outside moldmaking possess excellent skills in metal working or machining operations that are compatible with the skills necessary to make injection molds. the missing link is the understanding of the moldmaking industry and the paculiarities of how a mold is designed and built. It is toward this end that this manual has been written. Tech Mold is an independent, privately-owned mold manufacturer and a recognized leader in the R&D, design and manufacture of precision, multi-cavity, runnerless injection molds for clients that require optimized productivity and overall lowest manufacturing costs.
