The Race: A Philosophical Journey

How often does reality trump over fiction…? Quite a lot, wouldn’t you say? If we need assurance of this, here’s a good example: “The Race”, a novel, just published.The unplanned ownership of a triumphant Thoroughbred propels Robert Hobson, a successful businessman and patriarch of a family, onto the unexpected role of a warrior engaged in a battle of epic proportions against an implausible adversary. The untimely demise of his horse - under the most bizarre circumstances after being the undefeated winner three times in a row - transforms his sadness, turning it into unwarranted anger, in a series of steps taken, demanding and expecting compensation from an unlikely defendant who he blames for the death of his filly.

Through a series of timely flashbacks that allow us to stretch the occurrences of a few months into three years, expectations, preparations and systematic planning culminate in savory episodes which we share as we follow the story.
At the same time in constructive dialogue, different voices with diverse opinions, allow an exploration of the various dogmas, philosophically opposite points of views and conceptions of what is the meaning of life and why are we here, giving us food for thought. Our differences blend under the sterile neutral magnifying glass of rationalization finding that, all along, we are all members of one society: The human race.

You, as prospective reader, accompany him, his family and others in a saga which show us all that the word race, has a deeper meaning for each and every human being, far beyond what we notice on the surface, from birth into oblivion, in our own race through our lifetimes. It reaffirms, conclusively, that there is meaning - in clarity that erases doubts - at the diaphanous curve of a rainbow.
